Some records end because the truth is finished. Most do not.
Most records end because someone with authority has decided the city cannot afford another line.
A name is entered. A charge is assigned. A casualty is classified. A ceremony continues. The file closes.
The damage does not.
That is the part official records are designed not to carry. Not because they are empty, but because a record that kept every consequence open would eventually become an accusation.
The Decadal Shift is approaching its final entry. Do not mistake that for completion.
A closing line can end a chapter. It cannot end what the chapter has done.

Chapter 6 of The Decadal Shift arrives Friday.
It is the final chapter of the prelude. That does not mean it is the chapter where the world heals. It is the chapter where the wound takes its final shape.
That distinction matters.
A prelude is not just "what happened before." Not if it's doing its job. A prelude is the event the main story has been living with before the reader ever arrives.
It is the locked room. The buried record. The name removed from the report. The lie everyone learned to stand on.
For five chapters, The Decadal Shift has been showing you how Vehl's Reach protects itself.
Not how it tells the truth. How it survives.
Chapter 1 began with Nira seeing something the record said was not there.
Chapter 2 showed what happens when being right is not enough to make anyone listen.
Chapter 3 gave Drav a reason the city was never built to count.
Chapter 4 showed what Skyside's oldest doctrine had never actually tested.
Chapter 5 showed the city doing what it does best: converting the impossible into paperwork.
Chapter 6 is not here to make that cleaner. It is here to show you what kind of future a lie like that creates.
That future is Book 1.
The Infection Protocol does not begin in a clean city. It begins ten years after this one taught itself how to survive the truth.
That is why this prelude exists. Not as bonus lore. Not as a side corridor. Not as a detachable prologue.
It is the first visible crack in the system, the first crack on the Ascension wall that Book 1 inherits.
If you've been reading from Chapter 1, Friday is the closure of the first arc. If you're new, this is the week to catch up before the final chapter lands.
